Ecole de vie is a way of life.
It is Passion. Intention. Purpose. Adventure. Discovery. Motivation.
Growth. Compassion. Faith. Strength. Intelligence. Wisdom. Humor. Love.
It is a lifelong love of learning.

We are a homeschool website. But, we are so much more. The site features the journey of our family's home school experience, and offers insight, reflection, resources, and motivation to believe in yourself and build the home school experience that works for your lifestyle.  "Ecole de vie" means "School of Life". That is the entirety of the our family's vision of what education should be. All of life is a learning experiencce. All of life is to be lived purposefully, passionately... intentionally.

This is not a formal curriculum, or a total "unschool" philosphy. It is free-flowing, tradional, open-minded, child-led education journey, with a pinch of mom-led life-skill motivation. When I think of our school days, I most often reflect on us being like the old fashioned one room school house, with a modern twist. We "do school" together, aged 5 to 50. We keep it positive... always.  We are focused and relaxed. We are serious and fun. We are evolving, growing, discovering the joys of this ecole de vie. We don't expect everyone to agree with our perspectives and philosophies. But we do hope you will enjoy some of the insights and use bits and pieces of our program within your own.

When I first started this journey, I was feeling so full of doubt and unworthy of such a task. I leaned on other programs to build confidence. I used them as a "compass" to ensure that I was on track. It did not take me long to see that I already had what my children needed to learn everything they need to know. It also didn't take me long to learn that whatever I am lacking in, such as complicated math skills, there are numerous resources to fill that void. In the end, that's the most important thing I want my children to understand. We don't know it all. But we can find what we need. I want them to know how to look, where to look, and perhaps to forge their own answers. I don't believe there is only one way to school. I'm not ever going to say I think our way is the best way. But I am going to ask for mutual respect and shared appreciation for all of our journeys. My hope is that all of our children, home schooled, public schooled, private schooled, charter schooled, etc succeed in reaching their fullest potential, and their greatest goals. This works for our family. I hope something here will help you in the journey of what works for your family.

For me, the best part of home schooling is that we are on this journey together. I thought my husband and I would be the teachers and our children would be the students. But that could not be further from the truth. We are all learning together, every single day. I have become a new person since we began this adventure. I like the new me, and I think my kids do too. There is something humbling about embracing the fact that you don't know it all. There is something empowering about knowing you can learn anything... do anything... become anything.  So, my advice to you is, Step 1: Forget a lot of what you knew before. This is an adventure of discovery. Open your mind, your heart, and your spirit to embrace it all.
